of distant light
amid surrounding 
darkness
is enough for me
to imagine
a life of love
and loneliness
without rancour
or regret.
Darkness makes
me go into myself
be with me:
cajole and coax
care and crib
all that makes me real
and not be dazzled 
by sound and light.
A little window is enough
to reassure me
that you are there
and will be.
